The Voice of Freedom — Inscription
Story
The Voice of Freedom inscription honours the enduring legacy of Frederick Douglass and his lifelong commitment to freedom, equality and justice.
Presented on a polished wooden base, the inscription features words attributed to Frederick Douglass:
"You are not judged by the height you have risen but from the depths you have climbed."
The words are presented in tactile print and braille, allowing the inscription to be experienced through both sight and touch. A voiced version is also accessible via QR code.
Created in dialogue with the sculpture The Voice of Freedom, the inscription reflects themes of resilience, determination and the struggle for equality.
The inscription can be displayed alongside the portrait or experienced as a work in its own right.
